Tooker Avenue Mission Statement

Tooker Avenue School in West Babylon, New York, is a kindergarten through fifth grade public school. The school houses approximately 360 students, and first opened its doors in 1962.

Our mission is to provide, a safe and challenging school where every child is valued and respected as individuals. It is our goal and responsibility to make sure that every student learns and meets their full potential.

We will plant seeds in a safe and nurturing environment allowing our students to persevere and grow into unique, life- long learners who display good character with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to be the best that they can be.

Elementary Students Show Off Their STEAM Skills

The district held its first elementary Science Olympiad competition on May 23. Students from Tooker Avenue, Forest Avenue, Santapogue, John F. Kennedy and South Bay elementary schools joined together at the West Babylon Junior School to show off their STEAM skills.

Members of the West Babylon Senior High School and adviser Andrea Durbin organized the five competitive events. Prior to competition night, the high school students mentored the elementary students to prepare them for the events.

“The high school students did a phenomenaljob running the five events the elementary students competed in,” said Durbin. “They were an amazing example of teamwork, responsibility and leadership for our elementary students.”

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Scott Payne and director of STEAM Theresa Taplin were instrumentalin creating and recruiting the coaches at each elementary school and creating a Science Olympiad team for each school. Congratulations to the elementary teams: first place – South Bay; second place –Forest Avenue; third place – Tooker Avenue; fourth place –Santapogue; and fifth place –John F. Kennedy.

This year, West Babylon School District piloted an elementary Science Olympiad program to spark the interests of future scientists and STEM learners. Student teams in all five elementary schools have been practicing for their upcoming competition under the direction of the West Babylon Senior High School Science Olympiad team and advisor Andrea Durbin. Members of the high school Science Olympiad squad have been visiting each of the elementary teams to lend a helping hand.The events of the competition include: Straw Tower, Don't Melt the Ice, A is for Anatomy, Mystery Powders and a Gummy Bear Catapult Launch.

Individually Unique, Together Complete

Students in Mrs. Ramo’s class at Tooker Avenue Elementary recently discussed what makes them unique. They wrote down what makes them special on a puzzle piece. The students hung their puzzle pieces on the wall to show how together they make each other complete.

Tooker Musicians Ready for Performance

The third graders at Tooker Avenue Elementary are hard at work during their music lessons with Ms. Cicogna. The student-musicians are preparing for their upcoming recorder concert on May 10. For the evening performance, students will play five songs. The young musicians are excited to play for a live audience.

Kindness is Key for Tooker Avenue’s New Mural

Custodian Mike Kuffo, who has been busy beautifying the elementary schools throughout the district this year, recently completed Tooker Avenue Elementary School’s kindness mural. The mural reminds anyone who walks through the halls of Tooker that in a world where we can be anything, we should be kind. Pictured in front of the new mural is Ms. Will & Mrs. Valdemira’s second grade class.
