A Message from Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly……

June 2, 2021

Dear West Babylon Parents/Guardians,

I hope this correspondence finds you and your family healthy and excited for the summer! As state requirements are quickly evolving and summer-like temperatures have arrived, questions regarding mask wearing have as well. Many restrictions have been lifted for vaccinated individuals. As I am writing this letter, please be aware the state guidance for public schools remains the same as we close out the school year. The guidance for the schools from the CDC, New York State, Department of Health and the Long Island Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics continue to highlight the use of masks in schools to maintain the safety, health and welfare of all students, faculty and staff members.

Please be aware that for the remaining 17 days of school…
• Teachers/Staff have been asked to offer students the opportunity to take more frequent mask breaks while in the classroom.
• Now that the weather is warmer, outdoor learning opportunities will be maximized. When classes can be conducted outside, teachers may take advantage of this option.
• When outside and spaced more than six feet apart, mask breaks can be taken uniformly. Masks must remain in place when students are engaged in rigorous physical activity or when not appropriately spaced.

At this time, we have not received any new state requirements for September. We remain optimistic that things will continue to progress as they have been! As such, pending any updates from NYS, West Babylon will not require our students to be COVID-19 vaccinated prior to the 2021-22 school year.

We are planning many summer school offerings for our students. We are also currently planning for a full K-12 “regular schedule” in September.

Summer school information will be sent out by Mr. Payne, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction this week. Please contact your building principal if you have any questions regarding our summer school program or the school year.

Starting with the new school year, Board of Education meetings will allow for in-person community participation. The first BOE meeting with an in person public session is scheduled for August 17, 2021. Our Board of Education would like to offer residents who are unable to attend future BOE meetings in-person the ability to continue to watch remotely; therefore, all BOE meetings will continue to be live streamed for all to watch remotely. BOE meeting agenda, minutes and links can be found on our website - within the Board Docs - Quick Links section.

Quick reminder, if you are interested in being entered into the Universal Pre K Lottery, please visit the website for information and application:

It is safe to say, if all current trends continue, September of 2021 will more closely resemble the pre-pandemic days in West Babylon! We will continue to communicate any changes to either guidance or practices within the district as they occur.

Please continue to stay healthy and safe. We look forward to seeing you at the many special events planned
for the next three weeks!

Warm Regards,
Yiendhy Farrelly, Ed.D.
