Girls XC- Josephine Critchley Advances to State Meet/ WB Places 7th in Suffolk County/ Babylon Bowl (Senior Meet)

It was a hot and humid day at Sunken Meadow for the Section XI State Qualifier Meet. The conditions were less than ideal for all runners, but that didn't stop West Babylon from achieving two season-long goals. In the last official County race of the Cross Country season, the West Babylon Girls Cross Country accomplished two "firsts" in the programs history:

1.) Freshmen Josephine Critchley placed 5th overall in the Class A race against Suffolk County's strongest competition. With Sachem East qualifying as a team (7 total runners), the next five fastest individuals who aren't part of the qualifying team also advance to states. Amongst those five individual qualifiers, Josephine placed 3rd. *Josephine's finish makes her the first female cross country runner to advance to the state meet in West Babylon History. *She will travel up to Wayne, NY next weekend to run against the best of New York State.

2.) As a team, the girls made it their overall goal to finish top ten in Suffolk County. This was a lofty goal considering the teams 16th place finish in 2016. After four months that consisted of hundreds upon hundreds
of miles logged, it all came down to today's race to make that happen. In the end, *West Babylon placed 7th overall in Suffolk County*. This includes Class A, B, C, and D. They also finished ahead of last year's Class A
Champion Ward Melville, and Class B Champion Shoreham-Wading River (sorry Ms. Peraza!). The team achievement was accomplished by *Josephine Critchley (Freshman), Ellie Downey (Freshman), Kylie Magee (Sophomore), Jamie Cozzi (Sophomore), Natalie Haab (Junior), Hannah Heller (Junior) and Tara Hauff (Senior)*. If you see these girls throughout the day, I am sure a little congratulatory gesture would make their day.

Our Senior Meet, known as *Babylon Bowl is Tuesday, November 7th at Belmont Lake* (3:30pm). Come down and watch the girls run for their 2nd consecutive Town of Babylon Championship. It will also be a chance to pay homage to our three Seniors, Linda Zimmerer, Courtney Mulé and Tara Hauff. These girls deserve some hometown love for their final meet. We hope to see you there.
